About the print:
May love and good fortune follow you all your days with this whimsical print! Created using a collage of antique Victorian luck charms or “porte bonheur” as they were known in the late 1800’s, our Charmed Life design is quirky, cool, and so much fun! In a time before texting, Victorians often sent postcards and letters containing symbols of luck and well-wishing to their loved ones that echo today’s emojis. Common symbols of the day were clovers, elephants, dice, and magnets — but rats, pigs, and bugs were also symbols of luck! (We didn’t include any of those though) ;) The trim comes from an 1800’s lithograph we found in a library archive, and features flowers that also represent love and luck.
55% linen, 45% bamboo/wood viscose. Handwash (or machine wash gentle cycle) and hang to dry. Iron to finish if needed.
Artist Pants are one-size and will fit approximately size 4/6 (S) to size 12/14 (L). General meaurements: length 86cm. Waist (flat) 84cm around, and with elastic stretched 104cm around, hips 117cm. Model is 5’2” for reference.

The lighthearted, the lucky. Women who take a chance on love and adventure, who wish good fortune for all they meet. Women born under a lucky star.
-
During the Victorian era — a time of elaborate fashion and opulent decor — luck charms were more than just trinkets; they were imbued sentiment, wonder, and good luck! From the delicate horseshoes that graced Victorian doorways, to the intricate lockets worn close to the heart, every luck charm held a story. Miniature golden elephants, dice, and shooting stars were whimsical symbols of good fortune and often given as tokens of love. And of course— just like today — each leaf of a four-leaf clover was said to represent faith, hope, love, and luck itself.

A woman who once took a chance,
soon learned that all life is a dance.
She said, “Now I see,
luck’s created by me…
or could it be my marvellous pants?”
