Friendship Love and Truth Cottage Cardigan
Crafted from cozy printed cotton & spandex and lined with super soft poly-fleece, our Cottage Jackets combine the warmth and comfort of a cardigan with the style, versatility, and look of our stardusters. They are washable, and include patch pockets. After many months of development, we're so excited to welcome this special new piece to our collection for cooler days!
It takes a bold heart to live your truth. To keep reminding yourself that love is the answer, even on your hard days! We created this eclectic, super cool cardigan from an 1880s print unearthed in a library archive, and adapted the utterly charming wood-grain lettering to build the trim. The result is one of our favourite pieces in the collection: beautiful and completely unique, with a lot of romance, and a touch of rock and roll.
There are so many delightful images in this design, all of which are historic symbols of friendship, love, and truth! The beehive traditionally represents cooperation, and the bundle of sticks is a symbol of teamwork and solidarity. The clasped hands signify trust and fellowship, the heart-in-hand represents charity and kindness, and the eye is a symbol of truth. The flowers — of course — signify eternal love.
Cotton/spandex blend outer, lined in poly fleece. Machine wash gentle or handwash, gently reshape and lay flat to dry.
Cardigan measurements: length approximately 65cm, width (across back, underarm to underarm) approximately 74cm. Model is 5’5” for reference.

Our Cottage Cardi is so cool & versatile, you’ll be reaching for it again and again… whether you’re out running errands on a chilly day, or getting cozy at home with a good book. Layer it with jeans & a turtleneck, pack it along on your weekend getaway for a light jacket, or pop it on over your solid basics to instantly elevate them. We love the Friendship Love & Truth print paired with deep green, mustard, cinnamon, or basic black — but don’t be afraid to mix it with other prints for an unexpected, eclectic vibe. We’ll be wearing ours with a plaid button-up and brogues for a fresh take on fall layering.

The romantic, the icon. Women who live boldly in colour, who refuse to stop fighting for love. Women who wear their hearts on their sleeves.

In the era before social media and texting, the Victorians were great lovers of using pictures and symbols in their letters, artwork, and communications (kind of like we use emojis today ;)). Symbols like the ones in our FLT design often appeared on greeting cards, postcards, and jewellery to communicate messages of love. Specific flowers even symbolized different things — for example, a camellia was symbol of longing, and the iris represented faith & hope. Back then, just like today, a picture was worth a throusand words :)

She will wear her heart outside like a necklace, simply because it glitters. In record shops and cafes it will catch the light sometimes, a red jewel waiting to be stolen like the flower in a neighbour’s garden. The barista will see it on her shirt and marvel. The cashier will stare, see a flash of museums once visited, grand rooms hung with portraits of women who glance at angels off-frame.
Sometimes her heart will chip at sharp words like a vase on a countertop, or wear dull in places like the arms of a velvet chair. The patina left by lovers and friends, children, her own rough tongue. Tiny cracks left by goodbyes that startled her legs of her chair scraping as she stands up from a table, knocks over her glass, heart swinging. Grabs her coat. And still. Too much, too red too full for her pockets.
