Heartwork Opera Duster

Introducing Heartwork — our tribute to the indomitable, heart-centred spirit of women in art! This stunning piece features artist Artemisia Gentileschi’s beloved self-portrait — surrounded by lushly painted forest landscapes, birds, and butterflies. Gentileschi was a gifted and outspoken painter from the 1600’s who made her living as an artist during a time when few women did. In a letter to one of her wealthy patrons (who questioned her abilities) she famously wrote, “My illustrious lordship, I'll show you what a woman can do.” We think what a woman can do is nothing short of marvellous ;)

100% bamboo/wood viscose. Machine wash gentle or handwash and hang to dry. Iron to finish if needed.

Kimono measurements: length 118cm, width 78 cm (across back, underarm to underarm). Model is 5’7” for reference.

and that voice will be silenced.”

  • We can’t help but be a little dramatic when it comes to this stunning piece! The completely unique design will turn heads, and the versatile colour palette will match with so many tones in your existing wardrobe — greens, rust, caramel, teal, mustard, and black, just to name a few. Layer it over linen pants or leggings for everyday, and then double down on the drama by pairing it with a long dress or high waisted trousers and some bold jewellery. Artemisia would ;)

  • The artist, the luminary. Women who bravely create, and refuse to let their light be dimmed. Women who live their truth.

  • Artemisia Gentileschi was born in 1593 in Rome, and raised by her father, painter Orazio Gentileschi, who trained her in his workshop from a young age. Naturally gifted and enthusiastic, she was producing highly accomplished work by the age of 15. Famed for her feminist perspective that did not shy away from portraying women as bold and formidable, Gentileschi’s work was groundbreaking and defied stereotypes. She is remembered and celebrated for her remarkable talent, and her tenacious heart.

  • She broke a path through the woods so I could see the stars. Paintbrush in her teeth like a knife, brambled skirt hiked up, smock smeared green. Her canvas is the cottage window where a candle still burns all night to welcome me, the mad and the magic. My cheeks flush with every colour of her fever, every colour of her faith.
