Love Story
When we stumbled across a hand-drawn and coloured “puzzle purse” love letter that was over 200 years old, we were astonished by its romantic beauty. Made of paper, painstakingly decorated, and containing heartfelt declarations of love, it was carefully folded in to a pinwheel and had somehow managed to survive the last two centuries almost completely intact. Using all parts of the love letter, we carefully designed a captivating and pretty patchwork pattern, then trimmed it with pieces of the original poetry reconstructed from the author’s charming handwritten script. It reads:
My heart is true to none but you
My heart I hope you will pursue
The roses and the lilies twine
Since you became my Valentine
Round is my ring and has no end
So is my love unto my friend
We trimmed this starduster with another piece of the original poem:
I’ve pictured here, your heart and mine.
There is something so special about wearing a piece of art that was created purely out of love :)
100% bamboo/wood viscose. Machine wash gentle or handwash and hang to dry. Iron to finish if needed.
Kimono measurements: length 92cm, width 110cm. Model is 5’5” for reference.

This piece is pure romance, which makes it a dream to wear! Keep it soft with a flowy skirt and silk tank, or mix it with linen and layered long necklaces for a more bohemian vibe. The faded colours have a vintage feel that also works really well for a more classic, heritage look — throw on a pair of jeans, a leather belt, and cowboy boots for a little rustic edge. And can we add that this piece just looks so pretty over a swimsuit on the beach? Too many options ;)

The remarkable Valentine we used to design this delightful starduster is circa 1800, and was created in the traditional style of fraktur folk art used by the Pennsylvania Dutch. At once intricate and rustic, this captivating style of art was often decorated with flowers, stars, hearts, and calligraphic flourishes, and was traditionally used to record and document family histories, and teach school children to write.

She doesn’t mind that there are no fresh words for love. The worn ones are enough, folded up and passed with fumbling fingers under school desks, texted in the dark, tossed in winds across the wild sea. Tired words, threadbare words dog-eared pages under every unmade bed prayers uttered in the first light of morning: love, love, love. I love. Her mouth opens in surprise. Each time she hears them, they are born in to her hands wet and gasping and new.
