Theatre of Dreams Bohéme Slip Dress
“All I want to do is create. And maybe make things a bit more beautiful.” — Jennifer Lanne
Welcome to the enchanting world of painter Jennifer Lanne, where everything is a richly imagined and storied daydream: birds bring love letters wrapped in silk ribbons and wild deer frolic in the woods behind lush velvet curtains. Based in rural New York, Jennifer lives on a historic farmette and creates her paintings in a centuries-old barn on her property, infusing each piece with a dreamy, timeworn quality. Inspired by a love of antique textiles, classic motifs and the seasonal beauty of the natural world, her work has a romantic and whimsical feel that’s easy to get lost in. We’re so in love with this collaboration! Jennifer’s paintings marry perfectly with our highest intention here at Market of Stars: to create poetry you can wear.
The adjustable straps, oversized cut, and soft, flowy bamboo viscose make our Bohéme dresses a wardrobe staple for layering, running errands, dancing, lounging or napping — and they’re also a must-have for travel, wherever you roam. Like all of our slip dresses, this piece is reversible! It also pairs beautifully with the matching Theatre of Dreams Opera Duster as shown (available seperately).
Please note: The nature of our soft bamboo/wood viscose means it’s slightly sheer, so we recommend layering it with our Étoile slip (or any other slip you have) when wearing it with bare legs. Our model in the photos is wearing the dress without a slip.
100% bamboo/wood viscose. Machine wash gentle or handwash and hang to dry. Iron to finish if needed.
Adjustable straps. Dress measurements: S/M — length 132cm at shortest strap adjustment, 142cm at longest. Width 52cm (across bust, underarm to underarm), 54cm (across waist seam). L/XL — 134 cm length at shortest strap adjustment, 144cm at longest. Width 57cm (across bust, underarm to underarm), 59 cm (across waist seam). Model is 5’9, and is wearing a size S/M for reference.

Rich, romantic, and ethereal — this slip dress is pure magic! Embrace the earthy, woodland vibe with suede ankle boots and a soft cardigan for everyday, or go dramatic after dark and layer it with the matching duster & gold jewelry. The reversible print on the bodice makes it extra versatile and fun to create outfits with — and the painterly colours play beautifully with other textures (think linen, silk, and wool). We’ll be wearing this one in the fall with a velvet scarf and jean jacket to tell a beautiful story…without saying a word ;)

The artist, the romantic. Women who claim a creative life, who walk through the wild woods of their imagination and happily get lost.

What a delight it’s been to collaborate with artist Jennifer Lanne and live in her world for a little while! Of her process and her work, Jennifer says
“My inspiration and mind is constantly beckoned to vintage. Maybe it's from creating in a centuries old barn and 1780's house that does it… or my undying love of rich and textural antique textiles, classic motifs or objects covered in layers of paint. Maybe all of that.
My barn studio is where paint hits the canvas and where paintings evolve with my trademark distressed finishes… all come from the heart.”

Inheritance
I left all my dreams
in the woods for you.
Curled up in tight green
cradles of fern heads, sleeping
in the mushroomed throats
of hollow trees. I tucked them
under white stones
and beneath white birds
warm in nests. I sank the dark ones
deep in bogs to rest
with bones. A few I hardened
in to amber jewels, nestled them
in antler moss. I wrote
thousands of them on leaves
that will fall
under your feet
as you walk
the path. Go by moonlight.
The ones I dreamed of you,
I sent up to the stars.
