Wild Beauty Bohéme Slip Dress

CA$148.00

Majesty, luxury, and good luck! Peacocks — symbols of strength, confidence, luck, and royalty — have been celebrated for their glorious and colourful plumage throughout history. This remarkable piece features several dramatic, deliciously rich artworks from the 1600’s by Dutch painter Melchior d’Hondecoeter in a lush palette of crimson, ochre, black and cerulean blue. The whimsical trim is a peacock toile print we created using a reconstructed French textile fragment from the same era.

This dress is reversible! Wear it with the warm golden sunflower on the front, or the graceful diving swallowtail — depending on your mood. The adjustable straps, oversized cut, and soft, flowy bamboo viscose make it a wardrobe staple for layering, running errands, dancing, lounging or napping — and it’s a must-have for travel, wherever you roam.

Please note: The nature of our soft bamboo/wood viscose means it’s slightly sheer, so we recommend layering it with our Étoile slip (or any other slip you have) when wearing it with bare legs. Our model in the photos is wearing the dress without a slip.

100% bamboo/wood viscose. Machine wash gentle or handwash and hang to dry. Iron to finish if needed.

Adjustable straps. Dress measurements: S/M — length 132cm at shortest strap adjustment, 142cm at longest. Width 52cm (across bust, underarm to underarm), 54cm (across waist seam). L/XL — 134 cm length at shortest strap adjustment, 144cm at longest. Width 57cm (across bust, underarm to underarm), 59 cm (across waist seam). Model is 5’9”, and is wearing a size S/M for reference.

  • Like all of our Bohéme slip dresses, this one is reversible — but we really find with this piece in particular that the two sides have a very different feel from each other. Pair the earthy and rich sunflower side with a cozy cardigan in autumnal tones of ochre, rust or deep green, or flip it around to the swallowtail side and add a leather jacket or blazer in navy or black. For summer, it’s beautiful on it’s own of course, but we also love it layered with a denim shirt or white men’s shirt tied at the waist. And for those days when you want to make an entrance, cinch it up with a belt and add the matching duster overtop for a dramatic, artsy outfit that is sure to get rave reviews.

  • The tastemaker, the adventuress. Women who live a life of style and substance, who take a chance and say yes to themselves. Women who dare to bet on their own wild hearts.

  • The peacock has a long and interesting history of myth and symbolism in cultures throughout the world! To the Greeks, the peacock was the chosen emblem of Zeus’s wife, Hera, and she chose them to pull her chariot. In India they represent beauty and royalty and are depicted often in painting and sculpture — most famously in the Peacock Throne used by Emperor Sah Jahan who built the Taj Mahal. In Chinese mythology peacock feathers were a symbol of luck and protection, and to the Victorians — who adorned their gardens and parlours with peacock imagery — they represented wealth, beauty, and the celebration of art.

  • Blink

If you tire of work today, blink and become a bird. See for a moment how your fingers are feathers, sleek as ravens bejewelled as peacock tails, soft as the underside of a sparrow. Your wings hold nothing but let them carry you feel them lift and dive, see how their wind moves the grass, the waves, the farthest star.
